Rhinoplasty in Geneva

Nose surgery for balance & function

A nose job (rhinoplasty) is a highly specialized procedure designed to refine the shape, size and/or function of the nose, while maintaining facial harmony. Since every nose is unique, achieving the best outcome requires a tailored approach that balances aesthetics with structural integrity. At our clinic in the heart of Geneva, advanced surgical techniques ensure precision, natural-looking results and an improvement in breathing function.

Whether refining nasal contours or correcting functional issues, the goal is always to achieve results that look and feel completely authentic.

Common concerns a primary rhinoplasty can address

From aesthetics to function: correcting shape, balance & breathing

A primary rhinoplasty can enhance both the appearance and function of the nose by addressing common concerns such as a nasal hump, a wide, deviated or asymmetrical nose, a droopy or bulbous nose tip, or a deviated septum affecting breathing. This includes poor function of the nasal valves and structural defects from birth or caused by trauma.

What to expect: the rhinoplasty process

operation-rhinoplasty-surgery-switzerland

Before the operation

A successful rhinoplasty starts with a thorough consultation. During your consultation, we will take the time to understand your concerns, discuss your goals and assess your nasal structure to determine the best approach for a natural, harmonious result.

We will carry out a 3D simulation and nasal analysis using the Vectra Imaging System. This technology usually provides a realistic preview of possible outcomes.

Key pre-surgery guidelines include:

Lifestyle adjustments

Avoid smoking and alcohol before and after surgery to promote optimal healing.

Medications to avoid

Blood thinners such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and herbal supplements like ginseng or fish oil should be stopped 10-14 days prior, following medical guidelines.

Skin management

Patients prone to rosacea should minimize triggers such as heat, spicy food, and alcohol. They may also experience prolonged inflammation after the surgery.

Our goal is to ensure that you feel fully informed and prepared for your procedure, both physically and mentally.

During the operation

Rhinoplasty is usually performed under general anesthesia, while some select cases can be done under local anesthesia depending on the complexity of the procedure. Using advanced surgical techniques, we carefully reshape the nasal structure that best fits your face. Depending on your specific needs, we may refine the nasal tip, correct asymmetries or deviations, remove a hump or help to improve breathing. The procedure typically lasts 2 to 4 hours. As a surgeon, the priority is precision, safety, and achieving a natural result that enhances both aesthetics and function. Every step is meticulously executed to minimize trauma and ensure an optimal healing process. This may involve using intra-operative icing or the use of the piezotome (ultrasonic surgery).

What results to expect?

A successful rhinoplasty should enhance your natural features while maintaining facial proportions. While initial improvements in nasal shape, symmetry, and breathing function will be noticeable, the healing process takes time. Swelling and bruising are common in the first days, with 80% of the swelling subsiding by six weeks and 95% within six months. However, this is highly variable and the nose may continue evolving for up to four years after the procedure. Usually the first year is an inflammatory phase, followed by a contractive phase. The inflammatory phase is more or less prolonged depending on the thickness of the skin-soft tissue envelope and/or prior skin conditions (prolonged in thick sebaceous skin, acne, rosacea). Post-operative care is key for the best long-term outcome. Nasal taping, corticosteroid injections and LED therapy may be useful to optimize healing and refine the final outcome.

How long is the recovery period?

This is highly variable, but most patients are socially presentable within 7 to 10 days, with swelling and potential bruising visually improving steadily. A nasal splint is worn for the first week to support healing. Beyond the initial recovery, subtle definition of nasal contour will continue over the following months. To ensure the best results, we provide personalized aftercare guidance, including nasal taping, skincare, and lifestyle adjustments. Full refinement of the nasal structure unfolds gradually, with the most stable results visible between 6 months and up to 4 years.
